What is a Level 2 EV charger?

Level 2 chargers are the standard choice for longer-term parking scenarios, delivering a full charge in 3–8 hours.

There are three main EV charging types, each suited to different use cases:

Level 1 (L1): Standard household outlet. Charges very slowly — 17–20 hours for a full charge. Primarily used for home use.

Level 2 (L2): Dedicated 240V circuit. Charges in 3–8 hours. The standard for longer-term parking scenarios like office buildings, multifamily residential, and hotel parking garages.

DC Fast Charging (DCFC): High-power chargers that deliver an 80% charge in about one hour. Ideal for high-turnover destinations like shopping centers, coffee shops, and highway rest areas.

Faster charging requires more electrical infrastructure. Level 1 is cheapest to install; Level 2 is moderate; DCFC requires substantial electrical upgrades. For locations where vehicles park for extended periods, Level 2 offers the best balance of charging speed, cost, and practicality.
