How does community solar work?

Community solar offsets electricity costs for residents and commercial businesses through credits on their electricity bills for the power produced from their portion of a solar array.

Community solar can offer financial benefit because of state and utility-provided incentives which lower the cost of building solar, most often on empty parcels near large cities (e.g. Chicago and New York metros).
